SPotY
This year's contenders are -

Tom Daley
Tyson Fury
Adam Peaty
Raheem Sterling
Emma Raducanu
Sarah Storey

Not the most inspiring of line ups and I suspect Tom will win it for being a very nice young man who knits.

When you think woman beater Ryan Giggs won it, we've come a long way from then and all six of the finalists were worthy of being there!

Re: SPotY
Diving is a mixture of individual & pairs events I thought so Daley was presumably there for INDIVIDUAL achievement
Either that or his dive partner Harry Kane was still at the game v Liverpool.

The achievement of the Chinese bird to win a Grand Slam singles after not previously winning a tour match and coming through qualifying is a massive and almost unbelievable result so an obvious winner.

Balding and Logan are top notch sports presenters and then there's erm Alex Scott! She's embarrassing and would be better off with those men hating witches on Loose Women!

That young multiracial/multicultural bird must be one of the most remarkable sporting achievements to be fair. The fact she also ticks both WOKE and Quota type boxes along with being a good looker is all bonus points. She is the most boring speaker I think I've ever heard though.

Re: SPotY
So Daley on his own then must have been there for his knitting? Just sums the programme and the channel up.
Who verifies these votes anyway?

Re: SPotY
I always see it as the sportsperson who managed to capture the public's attention through their sporting endeavours rather than necessarily attaining the greatest sporting achievement.

Radcanu's story is obviously a fantastic one - winning the US open in her first appearance there despite being a qualifier and in so becoming the first British ladies winner of a grand slam in almost half a century clearly ticks all the boxes for this.

Looking back to past winners there are some weird ones... Michael Owen in 1998 seemingly won it for scoring a brilliant goal in the world cup but winning absolutely nothing. But that goal obviously caught the attention of the public more than those who were winners in their individual sports in that year.

Re: SPotY
But it's not Sports Achievement of the Year - it's meant to be about the slightly more intangible things (hence Daley being there but not his diving partner).

Raducanu is the easy and worthy winner for me.

Re: SPotY
I understand why Raducanu won and expected her to win given the British public middle aged women vote but she's not the best in the world - she did achieve something unprecedented though.

Peaty is the best in the world at his event.

Fury is the best at his weight in boxing.

I'd say one of those two were more deserving in sporting terms.

Daley coming ahead of Peaty or Fury is bollocks but of course very few people like Fury so in a public vote he was never going to come high up

Doesn’t Tom Daley compete with a partner? How’s he get nominated and his mate doesn’t?

Well done the Beeb!

Marvelous stuff

Fuck knows why England got team of the year...for not winning anything.

Re: SPotY
So Raducanu wins it. I don’t think the British public has been this shocked since Sir Bob Massingbird sent Big, bearded, bonking, butch Oscar Wilde down. For being a whoopsie.!

Alex Scott.

A prime example of getting promoted way above your actual ability.

Only saw the last 5 minutes to see if my prediction that Alex Scott would be presenting! Can't argue with Raducanu, if only to stop a conspiracy theory if all three that were there won!
